Referee Resources and Links
Hello Everyone,
Woohoo! We’re finally ready to get back on the field!
After a long and arduous year and a half of restrictions, things are finally looking up. Case numbers are going down, restrictions are being lifted, and the return of soccer in Alberta is in the works. With that, we are pleased to announce that the Edmonton and District Soccer Referees Association is coming back this year with new and fresh ideas looking to improve the quality of refereeing in Edmonton.
To kick off the 2021 season, we will be hosting a drop-in open house/social event at Strathcona High School (Rollie Miles Athletic Park) on Sunday, June 13th from 3pm to 9pm. Throughout the day, we will have many activities set up including: practice fitness tests, a ball to play around with, and refreshments. This informal gathering is intended for referees to meet and socialize after not having seen each other for over a year. In addition, we will have some handouts demonstrating our initiatives for this year. Covid Protocol as per AHS will be in place. Facemasks and Social Distancing will be in effect. Our main effort this year is our “On The Pitch” program. This is a 10 session program intended to help new referees kick start their careers as well as recondition experienced referees. Further information can be found below. We would also like to mention that we are collecting referee jerseys to give to newer referees, so if anyone has any leftover referee uniforms in good condition that they would like to donate, please feel free to bring them over, and we will ensure that they find a home. Please understand that this is not a 6 hour session, but rather a drop-in session where you may come at any time you please.
See You There!
The Edmonton and District Soccer Referees Association is pleased to announce that a program called “On the Pitch” has been developed and is there to help Referees get on the pitch with confidence. It has been put together to help new Referees gain experience and knowledge that will help them on and off the field, as well as experienced Referees that are interested in improving their knowledge and mindset of being on the pitch again. It will consist of fitness training, on field practical sessions, and a question and answer session. There are 10 Sessions that have been developed that cover all Referee positions on a pitch that will help give a solid foundation and understanding of what is expected. This program has been acknowledged and supported by David Gantar, FIFA Referee and the Edmonton CARD Program (Centre for Advanced Referee Development). These sessions are open to all Referees and if interested or want more information, please send an email to EDSRARefs@shaw.ca.
