Referee Courses Information for Outdoor Season

All EMSA and ASA courses usually run in APRIL, in preparation for the Outdoor season, the registration for all courses will be online.

EMSA REFEREE Courses

EMSA Assistant Referee A/R

The Assistant Referee course is open for all participant 11 years of age or older. This course provides children with the needed instruction to assistant referee a game. Upon completion of this course, participants will receive Jersey, Shorts, Badge, socks and flag, please ensure that the participants brings gym cloths and appropriate indoor footwear as there is indoor field portion with this course.

Price: $120 (course + ref uniform)

This course has 4 component:

Classroom Training plus Exam (2hours) and Practical Session (2 hours) same day.
Exam Review Session (1 hour)

EMSA AR Assistant Referee REFRESHER

This course is for those that completed an EMSA AR Course in prior years and want to officiate as an EMSA AR for the upcoming 2023 outdoor season. The EMSA AR Assistant Referees Refresher Courses is done in 3 stages (registration, exam and course) see below:

Prior to the course you will be required to complete a Refresher Course Exam. The link will be sent after you register. The Zoom link will be sent after the Refresher Course Exam has been completed. The exam has to be done by midnight on the Thursday before the course you are attending.

There will be 2 courses (you need to attend ONLY one):

April 2nd from 1:00PM to 2:30PM via Zoom.
April 15th from 1:00PM to 2:30PM via Zoom.

ENTRY LEVEL COURSES

This course is for new referee 14 years or older (on or before May 15th), who would like to referee U11 8v8, U13 and older 11v11, or act as an assistant referee (linesman) at any level. Any referee who has taken an Entry Level course, 14 or older would be able to referee Mini games.

This course is for existing 11v11 referees (not mini referees), there is a mandatory refresher course prior to the start of the outdoor and indoor seasons

MINI REFEREES COURSES

A one-day introductory course for people 12 years and older (on or before May 15th), who would like to referee U9 and younger only. As of 2020, all Mini Referee Courses include AR training. Any referee who has taken an Entry Level course, 14 or older would be able to referee Mini games in your program.

To register for this course you need to create an account on E2E Ref Centre, a website where you can find all the ASA Courses in Alberta.

EMSA Assistant Referee REFRESHER ONLINE

To take this A/R REFRESHER course you must have previously completed an EMSA AR Course of the EMSA Facilitator Course. If you are an Entry Level Referee you need to take an ASA Referee Refresher Course.

The EMSA Course will be held via Zoom on Thursday April 7th from 6:30PM to 8:00PM. The link will be sent to you after the pre-course exam has been completed (this exam must be completed by 9:00PM on Wednesday April 6th). The instructor will email the link of the exam after the registration has been done.

These will all be hosted by Alberta Soccer online through Refcentre modules and webinar sessions. Once referees have attended the outdoor refresher, they will appear on the Eligible List of Referees for Outdoor 2022.
